Dentures

Does your ability to eat and speak suffer because of missing teeth and significant tooth decay?

Dentures can replace your missing teeth and restore your bite and smile.

Perfect Smiles California in Chula Vista, CA, can craft dentures to improve the health, function, an appearance of your smile.

Why Choose Perfect Smiles California in Chula Vista?

Our dentistry practice offers complimentary consultations and same-day emergency dental appointments.

Our dentists are experienced and committed. Dr. David Garate has been in practice since 1998, and Dr. Myriam V. Falcon has been practicing since 2006. Our goal is to craft long-term relationships with our patients.

Our Chula Vista practice is equipped with advanced technology such as digital impressions, allowing you to visualize your new smile before your dentures are crafted. This also eliminates the need for messy putty impressions.

We do not outsource our lab outside of the US, allowing for faster turnaround times. This means you get a restored smile sooner.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are prosthodontic devices that replace most or all  teeth on one or both dental arches. These replacement teeth are designed to restore function to your bite and look just like natural teeth. Depending on your dental needs, they can be implant-supported or traditional. Traditional dentures rest on the gums and are held in place with a mild adhesive or titanium, and implant supported are are kept in place with screw-like devices.

Implant-Supported vs Traditional Dentures

Traditional Denture

Traditional dentures require a denture adhesive to keep them in place within your mouth, allowing you to chew and speak. Implant-supported dentures do not require dental adhesive. Instead, they rely on screw-like, titanium devices to attach them directly to your jawbone.

Implant Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are more stable, and the implants prevent bone deterioration that occurs with missing teeth. In fact, they are the one and only restorative dentistry option that can stop bone atrophy after tooth loss.

AllOn4

Another type of implant-supported denture, the all-on-4, is a more permanent denture solution. This type uses four implants. The dentures can be attached right after the dental implants are placed instead of waiting for the mouth and gums to heal.

A dentist at our Chula Vista location will work with you to determine which type best fits your needs.

Benefits of Dentures

Improved Quality of Life- By replacing the missing teeth, you restore your ability to chew and speak.

Restore your oral health- missing and decaying teeth can cause a host of health problems. Removing decaying teeth and replacing them with dentures can help prevent further health issues. Dentures can also restore balance to your bite, preventing or relieving painful TMJ issues.

Boost your self-confidence- dentures provide cosmetic benefits, giving you the beautiful smile you have always wanted.

Prevent excessive wear on remaining teeth- When you rely heavily on remaining teeth, there is excessive wear on those teeth because bite force is not evenly distributed. Dentures will allow you to chew and speak more naturally, distributing the wear on all teeth.

Implant supported dentures provide support to the surrounding bones and other tissues- Even a single missing tooth can cause bone atrophy and sagging facial muscles. Implant-supported dentures can stop this degenerative process.

Process for Dentures

If all-on-four dentures are used, dentures can be attached after the implants are place, eliminating that wait time. Your timeline will look much different. For traditional or implant-supported dentures, your timeline will also vary based on your needs. This is a general timeline for traditional or implant-supported dentures.

If dental implants or extractions (pulling a tooth) are required, this must be done first. After the dental implants are placed or the extraction is completed, your dentist will allow the mouth and gums to heal before treatment continues. This can take several weeks to several months. Healing time varies by person and the amount of work that is needed.

When you are fully healed, impressions are taken to craft your custom dentures. Our office uses digital impressions, allowing you to visualize what your smile will look like beforehand.

If you need a full set of dentures, wax rims are often used to ensure that your final set will fit and function properly. You will also choose the tooth color at this appointment. This is done before the dentures are processed so your dentist can make any necessary changes.

When your dentures are completed, they will be delivered to our office. Our dentists will adjust them to ensure a proper fit and perform any required alterations.

You should expect an additional 1-3 appointments to make adjustments. This is to ensure maximum function, fit, and comfort. These appointments will vary based on your needs. If at any point you experience issues such as tenderness, pain, or poor fit, you can call our Chula Vista office so our dentists can address your concerns. We want you to be completely comfortable with your dentures.

What Materials Are Used for Dentures? Our dentistry practice uses a variety of materials to create your perfect smile. These materials include:

  • Acrylic
  • ValPlast
  • Porcelain
  • E-Max
  • Zirconia (This material is only used in implant supported dentures)
