What Do Veneers Cost?

The overall cost of porcelain veneer treatment varies from case to case depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The number of teeth being treated
  • The type of material used, like resin or porcelain
  • The construction method of the chosen material
  • The amount of customization requested

During your consultation, our dentists will review all of these factors so that you can achieve your desired outcome within your budget. That being said, you can expect to pay anywhere from $1,100 to $1,800 per tooth. Perfect Smiles California offers payment plans and third-party financing to help you reach your cosmetic goals.

How Do I Know If Veneers Are Right for Me?

During a consultation at our Chula Vista, CA, dental office, our dentists can review your candidacy for porcelain veneers. Keep in mind that dental veneers require permanent alterations to the enamel of a treated tooth, so you need to be confident that you want veneers for the rest of your life. If you are ready to make a permanent change to achieve a beautiful smile, candidacy requirements for veneers include:

Sufficient Enamel

Treatment with porcelain veneers requires a certain amount of tooth enamel. Before placing a traditional dental veneer, our dentists need to remove a thin layer of enamel from the tooth surface in order to achieve a natural appearance. Patients with very worn or thin enamel may not be eligible.

No Grinding

If you grind your teeth or clench your jaw, you may need to resolve the issue before having veneers placed. This is because teeth grinding can fracture porcelain veneers. Some patients can protect their new smile with the use of an oral appliance while they sleep.

Minor Alignment Issues

We can use porcelain veneers to quickly address cosmetic issues like small gaps or minor misalignment. However, teeth that are severely misaligned are better treated with orthodontic treatments such as Quick Aligners or ClearCorrect®.

Consultation

Before we place your veneers, our dentists will meet with you for a consultation. We will discuss your smile goals and explain the possibilities that veneers have to offer.

Reshaping

In order to ensure that your veneers fit properly, our dentists will carefully remove a very thin layer of enamel from your tooth. It will be completely painless.

Impressions

We will take impressions of your tooth or teeth so that your veneers fit securely. This will also allow them to blend in with the rest of your beautiful smile.

Placement

Once your IPS e.max®  veneers are ready, our dentists will place them over your tooth. They will secure the veneers, allowing your stunning new smile to last for up to 10 years.

Top-of-the-Line Materials Only the Best for Our Patients

At Perfect Smiles California, serving National City and Greater San Diego, we craft veneers out of a state-of-the-art material known as IPS e.max. This porcelain ceramic is designed by Ivoclar Vivadent, one of the world's most innovative dental technology companies. There are multiple types of IPS e.max ceramics that can be chosen based on your specific needs and budget. We choose to use this material because it is:

  • Remarkably strong: A veneer made of IPS e.max can strengthen a tooth that is structurally compromised. IPS e.max veneers are the best veneer option for patients who suffer from teeth grinding and jaw clenching.
  • Incredibly lifelike: IPS e.max veneers are made by layering porcelain to create a restoration that closely resembles the color, translucency, and shape of your natural teeth.
  • Easily adaptable: No two smiles are the same, and no two patients have the same cosmetic goals. Fortunately, IPS e.max can be altered and shaped to meet your exact needs.

Caring for Your Veneers

When cared for properly, your new veneers can last for 10 years or more. You can make the most of your cosmetic treatment and prolong the life of your veneers by:
A woman with veneers and daughter brushing teeth

Practicing Good Oral Hygiene

A good oral hygiene routine that involves brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and using mouthwash regularly can keep bacteria to a minimum. This at-home care can also help keep your teeth and veneers bright and your mouth healthy.

Being Mindful About Certain Foods

Very hard foods can damage your veneers and chewy or sticky foods can pull them out of place completely. We recommend minimizing your intake of these foods or biting into and chewing them with teeth that haven't been treated.

Minimizing Foods That Stain

While porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, your natural enamel is not. Try to minimize your intake of foods that stain and drink beverages that are darkly colored through a straw. This can help keep your teeth and veneers a uniform shade of white.

Not Using Your Teeth as Tools

Using your teeth to chew on fingernails or open packages can damage your enamel and your veneers. Chewing on pens, pencils, ice, and other hard objects can also damage your new cosmetic dentistry treatment. Try to be mindful of how you use your teeth.

Attending Regular Checkups

Attend regular checkups at our Chula Vista office. Our dental hygienists can give your teeth a thorough cleaning, remove harmful plaque and tartar buildup, and help keep your mouth healthy enough to support your veneers. Our dentists will also examine your veneers at each appointment and let you know when it's time to replace them.

Porcelain Veneers FAQ

Why wouldn't I choose teeth whitening to address discoloration?

It is true that whitening treatment is less invasive than placing porcelain veneers, making it a more preferable choice for many patients. However, some stains are too deep in the enamel and simply won't respond to whitening. In those cases, porcelain veneers can obscure the discoloration and produce a bright, attractive smile.

Can porcelain veneers be used instead of dental implants to replace a missing tooth?

No. Veneers attach to the surface of teeth, so they aren't a viable solution for patients with missing teeth. If you have one or more missing teeth, consider dental implants as a solution for restoring your smile. We offer complimentary consultations to patients interested in dental implants.

Will insurance cover porcelain veneers?

No. As a purely cosmetic service, dental veneers are not covered by insurance. However, we make veneers affordable for all of our patients in Chula Vista, National City, and greater San Diego through payment plans and third-party financing.

How many veneers do I need?

Each patient has different cosmetic goals, meaning each case will require a different number of veneers. If you have a single misaligned tooth, a single veneer can conceal it. If you have widespread discoloration and chipping, we may place up to 12 veneers to achieve the best aesthetic results.

What should I do if a veneer comes off?

While this is rare, it can happen. Try to save the veneer. Then, call our Chula Vista office and we will make an appointment as soon as possible so one of our dentists can put your veneer back into place. In the meantime, your tooth may be sensitive to cold foods and liquids.

"The warm and welcoming reception, their expertise, attention to detail, and commitment to patient education are outstanding.
